Easter

My #2 daughter and I went to lunch on Sunday. We get together quite often since we are the “without partners” in the family. She was somewhat upset. When I asked her what was wrong she told me the following story. I need to tell you also that she considers herself a Christian, although she is anti-religion. She does not go to church but she believes in God and prays.

“ I called #3 (her sister) this morning to wish her a Happy Easter. I then asked her what kind of plans they had for Easter. She said that it is General Conference Weekend so they weren’t even going to church. I was shocked! She is so religious and so into her LDS church, why was she sitting out the most important holiday of Christianity?”
I knew this about the Mormons but I think my #2 is just beginning to realize how strange they are.

“I asked her why there was not a special service at church. Then she told me that Mormons celebrate the life of Jesus and not the death. Mom, she said, isn’t Easter all about His life? The fact that he rose from the grave as promised by God?”

I am no expert certainly, but I do remember when I was a Christian, Easter was the most important holiday at church. Even my parents who rarely went to church, made sure we were all dressed and in the pews on Easter Sunday.

My #2 doesn’t understand the Mormons but this was incredibly hurtful to her. She thought her sister was a good Christian. She told me that there is no way she could be Christian and not celebrate the resurrection of the Son of God.

Well Mormons are not Christians and they teach a false Gospel. But you know where most Christians stand on Mormonism from reading posts at the Answeringlds website. Rick b

I feel bad for your #2. I know it can be frustrating, hurtful and saddening when you find these things out about people you care for. Hopefully, you enlightened her a little bit to what the Mormons are all about?

Thanks Nicole. I feel bad for her also, she seems to have lost some respect for her sister.

So, did you tell her all about the Mormons?

Oh yes. And I gave her a book written by an exmormon. She is absolutely floored by what they believe...just as I was when I first learned about it.

The things that bug me about them are, They are not up front and honest about what they believe. They also do not want to talk about the differences in the church, or anything.

Nicole, for more information than you can fathom on Mormonism, Go check out Bill Mc, site, www.mrm.org

It is short for Mormonism research ministry.

From that you can go to their official blog, www.answeringlds.org

That is where I post a fair amount and how I meet interested.

I also have a mormon blog, it is, www.mormonismreviewed.blogspot.com

I'm more hardcore on my blog than answeringlds is, but I have not done much as of late on mine because I covered the majority of major doctrinal issues, and have no time to cover smaller issues, so I leave that to the other blogs, and simply post on them. Rick b

Was it The Godmakers? I've read it and was blown away...I feel especially sick about this as I just learned that my sons best friend is a Mormon.

Rick, thanks for the other sites. I will check them out!

Funny that some Christians can recognize other cults within Christianity but they suddenly become blind to the fact that Christianity is a cult.

Rick do you have a mancrush on me? Nothing is wrong with being gay but I am sorry to disappoint you since I am into women. I didn't mention you did I? Why do you find it necessary to change the topic to me?

As a Christian who some people would call "religious" I have to say: I don't think Easter should be the most celebrated Christian religion.

Celebrating the Resurrection is quite different (in my book) from celebrating Easter. Easter, by name, is a celebration of the Spring Equinox.

The ancient Saxons in Northern Europe worshiped the Goddess Oestre at the time of the Spring Equinox. The Goddess Easter represents the sunrise, spring-time and fertility, the renewal of life. Pagan Anglo-Saxons made offerings of colored eggs to her at the Vernal Equinox, putting them at graves. Some people believe that the Egyptians and Greeks did this as well.

"Christians" used the name later and morphed their religion onto a pagan celebration so that new converts wouldn't find the transition intimidating... and/or new "converts" kept celebrating their old traditions because rather than actually converting they added Jesus to one of the many gods they already worshiped. (I've seen the history written both ways, and both is equally believable.)

I would never prohibit a child from attending an Easter Egg hunt, because its now a fun tradition that many people participate in - but I also will never tell my kid that its an important Christian holiday or make up any kind of "Christian" symbolism about the eggs. In my book, the Resurrection celebration and the Easter celebration should be considered separate holidays, but they have been merged for so long people can't remember the difference.

Interested, thanks for popping by my site even in my absence - I have missed you all and your enlightening discussion!

Noreligion, Your correct, nothing is wrong with being gay. Gay simply means happy, But being a homosexual, as you imply you seem to be, first your a man, then a women, make up your mind, then you think I'm in love with you.

I have told my wife many times in jest, If I were a homosexual I would be a lesbian, I love women that much.

But if you cannot decide, then make up your mind, then we'll talk. Rick b

Oh so, P.S. The point of my "Easter" rant is that I don't go to most Easter services either. I'm picky about how it should be represented because so many churches focus on parts that aren't actually from the Christian bible.

I do not know if you or anyone really cares, but you can check out the church I go to and even listen on line here http://www.ccsaintpaul.org/

We go through the Bible, verse by verse, we do not do a Christmas, or Easter service or anything like that. We go verse by verse every Sunday and we pick up where we left off the week before.

This way the entire Bible is taught. You can listen on line if you choose to. Rick b

This was forwarded to me, I do not know if it is true or not, but thought this goes with what me and noreligion were going on about.

Florida Court Sets Atheist Holy Day

In Florida , an atheist created a case against the upcoming Easter and Passover Holy days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case
against Christians and Jews and observances of their holy days... The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days.

The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring, "Case
dismissed!"

The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, "Your honor, How can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas,
Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays..".

The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, "But you do. Your client, counsel, is woefully ignorant."

The lawyer said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists."

The judge said, "The calendar says April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm 14:1 states, 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that, if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned."
