What is an Atheist?

I have been and still am quite busy with my daughter and the grandchildren but I ran across this quote and wanted to post it for posterity.

"I look at everything around me like you do, with amazement, but the amazing circumstances of life on this planet are not justifiably answered with blind faith, science answers questions with evidence, religion raises questions with lack there of."

"YOUR PETITIONERS ARE ATHEISTS and they define their life-style as follows. An Atheist loves himself and his fellow man instead of a god. An Atheist knows that heaven is something for which we should work now -- here on earth -- for all men together to enjoy. An Atheist thinks that he can get no help through prayer but that he must find in himself the inner conviction and strength to meet life, to grapple with it, to subdue, and enjoy it. An Atheist thinks that only in a knowledge of himself and a knowledge of his fellow man can he find the under...standing that will help to a life of fulfillment.

Therefore, he seeks to know himself and his fellow man rather than to know a god. An Atheist knows that a hospital should be build instead of a church An Atheist knows that a deed must be done instead of a prayer said.

An Atheist strives for involvement in life and not escape into death. He wants disease conquered, poverty vanquished, war eliminated. He wants man to understand and love man. He wants an ethical way of life. He knows that we cannot rely on a god nor channel action into prayer nor hope for an end to troubles in the hereafter. He knows that we are our brother's keeper and keepers of our lives; that we are responsible persons, that the job is here and the time is now."

As a Christian I do not have blind faith, and science cannot answer many questions to things you believe in.
Quote says YOUR PETITIONERS ARE ATHEISTS and they define their life-style as follows. An Atheist loves himself and his fellow man instead of a god.

Christians love themselves and their fellow man, but we also love God.

Quote says
An Atheist knows that a hospital should be build instead of a church.

As a Christian I believe both should be built.

I'm not escaping into death.

This imply's we a Christians don't want this stuff, that is so not true.

Many Doctors are Christians

Quote says
He wants an ethical way of life.

So do all the Christians I know.

Madalyn Murray is now a believer in the true and living God, but she is not a believer unto salvation. She now knows how wrong she was and is regretting it now, but it's sadly to late for her. Rick b

Hi Rick. I wanted to ask something: You said that as a Christian you believed both a church and a hospital should be built. Which would you choose in the case of natural disasters like the Hatti earthquake and the sunami a few years ago? In many cases the limited funds available make the choice necessary.

I think my biggest problem with the Christian attitude is that prayer solves problems. In my own experience, I see and hear that people are praying for something while doing nothing to help themselves. I think I know you well enough to know that is not your way but I think you probably know the kind of people I mean.

As far as the question about what to build, I say build a hospital. If you can only build one. Many Christians are either young in the faith or simply ignorant.

The Bible tells us that we the people are the Church, The so called church's we make now a days are simply buildings to meet in, but if people read the Bible they would see in the NT that people meet on the banks of the river and held services.

The church I have been going to for the last 10 years has never meet in a "church" building. We meet in many different Rec centers, then a school and now a hotel. We go where ever the rent is cheap.

On Thursdays we meet in a local park and have a giant grill, we provide food and feed at no cost who ever will come. We also do not require them to stay for church if they eat.

We believe by feeding them we are showing them the love of Christ and if they want to talk we will, we never force anything upon them.

I believe in prayer and actions, we even see that in the bible.

Jesus would say to a cripple for example, Rise up and walk. The guy must get up and walk, not say, well I believe Jesus healed me and do nothing about it.

In the Bible it mentions a disciple of Jesus, his name was Luke, Luke was a doctor. Jesus said to the religious leaders, The well do not need a doctor, but the sick do.

Since Jesus said the sick need doctors, then it stands to reason we can pray, but also go seek out a doctor.

Here is a good example I heard from a trusted pastor, I need a job, do I simply pray for a job but never leave my house and apply for one?

Honestly, will Jesus put it upon some owners heart to call a guy that he never meet and offer him a job? Not going to happen.

But then again the Bible does say, if a man does not work he shall not eat. So while I can pray for God to grant me a job, I also must be actively looking and trying to get one. Hope that helps. Rick b
