Baptism for the Dead

I am not ready to die, but then who is? Lately I have had a lot of medical problems and it has brought to the forefront that I am mortal! One day, maybe sooner than I think, I will die. I don't think I am so concerned about dying because, after all I have had a very good life. I have some wonderful children with whom I believe the world is in good hands, almost.

My daughter is smart and beautiful and truly works at being a good person; she is Mormon. Therein lies the problem. I'm not and I don't want to be Mormon, even after I die. I feel sure she plans to baptize me as soon as my ashes are cool. Why should I care? I'm not sure but I do. I remember all the Holocaust victims whose families were devastated because the Mormons were adding them to Mormons roles right and left. What right did the church have to do such a thing? I feel that if she is allowed to baptize me that somehow puts me in agreement with her; a position I would never assume in life. I am an atheist and I am comfortable with so being.

How do I tell her that I forbid it?

I WAS mormon and no am an nonbeleiver in anything. I understand your feelings on not wanting to be baptized after you pass. Is there such a thing as respecting peoples wishes???

already gone,

Respecting wishes has no meaning to TBM's. Because they feel that they know the whole truth, everyone else is just wrong. We are wrong if we don't want to be baptized because they have our eternal souls to worry about. They want us to be with them in the eternities, and they "know" that baptism is the ONLY way to make that happen so they will not listen to you if you ask to not be baptized after you die because they know better.

This issue, TBM's thinking they know more and better, is one of the biggest problems in the church and one that causes the most issues amongst family members.

Interested,

Just wanted to let you know that I added you to my blog list as well. Thanks for listing me on yours.

Thanks for your comments already gone, I noticed that you are military and I just want to say how much I appreciate you and what you do for our country.

I keep hoping that someone will take this issue to court and prevent this church from doing whatever they like. I won't hold my breath.

Ohhh, I have children and I know for a fact two will definitely do what I wish. It seems that she would respect your wishes. Are you on good terms with her? That would be a sad day if your wishes were not upheld.

Good terms? Yes, as far as it goes. Actually we had this conversation recently and she said I was being unreasonable. He thinking is that since I don't believe in god I shouldn't care what she does after I'm dead. My thought is that I don't want history to record that I was a mormon, ever.
